The Yoga Palace

The Yoga Palace Detox Retreat (with Traditional Khmer Massage)

Our detox program combines a gentle nutritional reset with our complete yoga and meditation retreat schedule to support weight management, metabolic balance, cellular renewal, vitality, and mental clarity. Available as 3- or 5-day programs

The benefits of Yoga and meditation can be greatly enhanced when your digestive system has a chance to rest. Our program is designed to maintain stable energy levels for yoga practice whilst retaining the detoxification and renewal benefits of fasting.

Kampot provides the perfect background for our detox retreat in Cambodia. We are surrounded by lush nature, which provides many of the foods and beverages used for the detox.

To support participants through any challenges that may arise, additional check-ins, extra meditation and breathwork exercises, and one on one sessions with the teachers are all available on request at no extra cost.

Why Combine Detox With Yoga?

Physical restriction works best when paired with mental discipline, so detox retreat participants join all the Yoga and meditation classes with our regular retreat guests. The calorie-restricted protocol gives your digestive system a break, allowing energy to redirect toward cellular repair and detoxification. Meanwhile, yoga and meditation create the mental space to observe patterns, reset habits, and establish new intentions.

This integration matters: as your body releases what it doesn’t need, the yoga practice helps you process stored tension. The meditation teaches you to sit with discomfort rather than react to it. The program will give you a deeper understanding of your relationship with consumption, craving, and self-regulation.

The teachers and other parcipants provide a supportive community, while the herbs work at a cellular level to support the body’s natural detoxification pathways.

Traditional Khmer Massage

Each participant receives one full session of Traditional Khmer Massage, an ancient healing practice rooted in Cambodian culture and Buddhist traditions of compassionate care. Drawing on principles similar to yoga and Ayurveda, Khmer massage combines acupressure, passive stretching, and rhythmic compression along the body’s energy lines to release muscular tension and restore natural flow.

For detox participants, Traditional Khmer Massage serves two complementary purposes: it helps release the physical tension stored in muscles and joints, supporting your body’s natural detoxification process by improving lymphatic flow and circulation—and it deepens the benefits of your yoga practice by opening areas of tightness and restoring ease of movement. The deeply relaxing nature of the treatment also calms the nervous system, supporting the emotional reset that is so central to the detox experience.

A Digital Detox Is Strongly Recommended

In the modern world, we’re losing the ability to simply be with our own thoughts. We’re bombarded constantly with information created by other people—their opinions, their anxieties, their curated realities. It’s worth asking: does the information you consume online actually align with your core values and interests? Does it deepen your understanding or sharpen your ability to express what matters to you? Or has your attention become a resource that’s being harvested—your time spent engaging with content that serves someone else’s agenda while your own interests and values remain unexpressed, even unexamined?

The yoga practice prepares the ground for meditation and mental stillness. Each asana works to settle the body so the mind can follow. But this carefully cultivated state is easily compromised when digital devices constantly snatch our attention, fragmenting our awareness and preventing the deeper states of presence that meditation requires.

We strongly recommend including a digital detox during your stay. Leave your devices in your room, or better yet, with our front desk. Give yourself permission to be unreachable. Use this time to rediscover what it feels like to move through your day guided by your own rhythm rather than notifications and endless scrolling.

All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.“, Blaise Pascal

The greatest need of our time is to clean out the enormous mass of mental and emotional rubbish that clutters our minds“,  Thomas Merton

An Opportunity To Refine Your Habits

Our detox retreat in Kampot provides the idea setting to plan your future life: with bad habits replaced by wholesome ones. The physical detox creates an ideal window for addressing habits you’ve been meaning to change. When you disrupt one pattern—your normal eating routine—other patterns become more visible and easier to shift.

This is an opportunity to give up smoking, drinking alcohol, coffee, or any substance you’ve developed a dependency on. The structure of the program, the daily check-ins, and the community support make it easier to move through the discomfort of withdrawal.

But the opportunity goes deeper than substances. Use this time to examine mental habits: chronic self-criticism, catastrophic thinking, rumination, people-pleasing, or whatever pattern keeps you stuck. The meditation practice teaches you to observe these thoughts without being consumed by them. The physical restriction teaches you that you can sit with discomfort without needing to fix it immediately.

As your body learns it doesn’t need food every few hours, your mind can learn it doesn’t need to react to every thought or impulse. The detox becomes a practice in distinguishing between what you actually need and what’s simply habitual.

Important Information

As your body adjusts to the program, you may notice some temporary sensations. These are normal and usually pass within a day or two:
  • Hunger pangs, especially on days 1-2
  • Mild headaches (often related to reduced caffeine or sugar)
  • Feeling a bit tired or low energy at times
  • Light-headedness when standing up quickly
  • Feeling cooler than usual
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Digestive shifts or changes in bathroom habits
  • Heightened emotions or feeling more sensitive
  • Moments of irritability or mood fluctuations
  • Difficulty concentrating initially

Many people also report positive shifts like mental clarity, a sense of lightness, or deeper connection with themselves as they move through the program.

Who should not participate in fasting

This program is not suitable for everyone. Please do not participate in the fasting or calorie-restricted options if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of eating disorders, have diabetes or blood sugar regulation issues, are taking certain medications, have a chronic health condition, or are underweight. If you have any health concerns, please consult your healthcare provider before beginning the program.
